AISI 409 409L Ferritic Stainless Steel Tube for Car Exhaust ASME SA268
TP409L/409 stainless steel tube is mainly used for automobile exhaust system, exhaust manifold, muffler.
Our Stainless Steel 409L Round Tubes which made up of extra - low carbon ferrite structure, and can be excellent in workability and weldability compared with conventional similar grades. Our experienced team produces high class Stainless Steel 409L Round Tubes, which is built by using superior grade metal that mostly known for its best qualities of durability and high tensile strength.
TP409/409L have the lowest chromium content of all stainless steels and are ideal for slightly corrosive environments where localized rust is acceptable. The least expensive of all stainless steels, type 409 was initially created for automotive exhaust systems silencers, but can now be found in automotive exhaust tubing and catalytic converter casings. Type 410L is often used for containers, buses and LCD monitor frames.
Grade 409/409L is a titanium stabilized Ferritic Stainless Steel , most commonly known for use in automotive exhaust systems. It features good mechanical properties and high temperature corrosion resistance. As a matter of fact, 409 / 409L as a chromium Stainless Steel can also be used in applications where weldability and corrosion protection are demanded. Although it is susceptible to rust formation, rarely used for decoration purpose, 409 / 409L stainless steel demonstrates excellent corrosion resistance against gas corrosion.
Alloy TP 409 Pipes is suitable for service in highly corrosive conditions and where high strength is required. The properties of this alloy are being widely used in offshore oil and gas exploration and production and in heat exchangers in petrochemical and chemical processing.

Available Tube Product Forms:
Straight.
Coiled.
Typical Applications:
Used for parts requiring a combination of good strength and toughness, plus reasonable corrosion resistance. Typical applications are: Bolts, Bushings, Fasteners, Gas Turbine Parts, Mine Equipment, Pump Parts, Petrochemical Equipment, Steam Turbine Parts, Studs, Valve Parts etc.
Material magnetic in all conditions.
The typical applications of grade 409 stainless steels are listed below:
Grade 409 stainless steels offer scaling resistance at temperatures up to 675°C during continuous operation, and up to 815°C under intermittent conditions. These temperatures pertain to specific service environments.
Annealing of grade 409 steels is carried out at temperatures ranging from 790 to 900°C, followed by air-cooling. Thermal treatment does not harden grade 409 steels.
Grade 409 steels must be pre-heated to temperatures of 150 to 260°C before welding. Although grade 430 and 409 filler rods or electrodes can be used during welding of grade 409 steels, grade 309 electrodes or filler rods are strongly recommended by AS 1554.6. Care should be taken to weld grade 409 steels with minimum heat, in order to mitigate grain growth.
Ductility of the welded products can be improved by annealing post-welding at temperatures of 760 to 815°C. However, this is not required for thin welded products. Welding of exhaust tubing of automobiles is carried out without filler rods.
