Grade 317 stainless steel is a modified version of SS 316. Also known as UNS S31700, these pipes and tubes has high strength and corrosion resistance. Alloy 317 is tougher than Alloy 304, and is thus quite recommended to use chip breakers. Hardenability of this alloy with WNR 1.4449 will be reduced if constant feeds and low speeds are used.
